Rhoda Sowers and sister Bonnie of Pittsburgh, Ida Strait, Mack Clevenger and friend Lois all enjoyed a delicious Thanksgiving

dinner with Lisa and Wade Kemp and children Andrea and Harold Metz Jr. of Shippensburg. After dinner all enjoyed many desserts, played cards and viewed old family photos.

Louise Long and family visited on Saturday with her granddaughter, Lydia Mannion, who is working at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. They also visited the historic St. James Methodist Church and ate at the Fish Market for dessert. One slice of carrot cake had seven layers and weighed 3 pounds. The church is where Louise’s greataunt was caretaker in the ’40s and early ’50s. They also saw the last of the smokestacks left from the steel mills.

Birthday wishes to Emma Bivens, who will observe her 93rd birthday on December 5; Carl Knable and John Duffey, December 3; Lynette Helman, December 4; Dolly Miller and Martha Sheffield, December 5; Don Diehl, December 6; Denny Kobel, December 7; Mark Buterbaugh, December 8; David Bivens, December 3; John Washabaugh, December 7; Joyce Wright, December 6; and Wendy Mellott, December 5. Happy belated birthday to Randy Skiles November 23 and Reed Lynch December 1.

Visiting with Jack and Lib Sipes over the Thanksgiving holiday were Bobby Yost of Boston, Butch and Brenda Yost of Georgia and grandchildren and family members of Lancaster.

Path Valley racing banquet was held Saturday night, November 21. John Rasp received the championship award and son, Justin received runnerup award and Rookie of the Year. Attending the banquet were Annette Rasp, Pete and Bessie Rasp, Marlene Savat and friend Jim.

Sympathy goes out to the family of Goldie Deshong, who passed away last Monday.

John, Pam and Emile Ott, along with other relatives and friends, visited with Jordan Ott over the weekend in Atlantic City and attended a Michigan State basketball game. Jordan is affiliated with the Michigan State team.

Carl and Hulda Bain were treated to a Thanksgiving dinner in their home on Friday by their children and families, Carl Jr., Annette and Bill.

Public Opinion’s 2009 volleyball all-stars from this area were first team: A’Leese Dickerson of McConnellsburg; second team: Lisa Deshong, McConnellsburg; and honorable mention went to Emily Watkins and Valerie Green, McConnellsburg; and Brittany Strait and Jenna Ritz, Southern Fulton.

Lexianna Everts celebrated her first birthday on November 29. She is the daughter of Darcy Everts and granddaughter of Junior and Susie Everts.

Sympathy gos out to the family of Gary Rowles, who lost his battle of cancer last Wednesday.

Visiting with Carole Mellott over the Thanksgiving holiday and enjoying a dinner were her children and families and sister Joyce and Larry Warthin and children of Camp Hill. Carole retired last Tuesday from the Farm Service Agency after 26 years of service.
