Mildred A. Peterson Mellott
Mildred A. Peterson Mellott, 98, Burnt Cabins, died Saturday, November 7, 2009, at Fulton County Medical Center in Mc- Connellsburg.
She was born July 14, 1911, in Burnt Cabins, Pa., the daughter of the late J. Chalmers and Sadie Kling Peterson. She was married to Max E. Mellott on October 30, 1937 in the Philipsburg Presbyterian Church by Rev. Charles Macbay. He passed away August 8, 1959.
She was employed by the United States Post Office in Burnt Cabins as a clerk for 37 years. She also worked at the Sidling Hill Plaza and the office at Cowans Gap State Park as a clerk.
She was a member of Burnt Cabins Presbyterian Church where she was an elder, a trustee, taught Sunday school, a pianist for 50 years and a treasurer for 20 some years. She was a charter member of the Fulton Chapter No. 519 Order of the Eastern Star and was a past matron of the chapter and secretary for 23 years.
She was also a member of the Farm Women of Huntingdon County. She graduated high school in 1930 from McConnellsburg High School.
She is survived by a niece and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, J. Chalmers and Sadie Peterson; her husband, Max E. Mellott; and three brothers: John, Warren and Wendell Peterson.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at 1:00 p.m., at Burnt Cabins Presbyterian Church in Burnt Cabins. Interment was held at Union Cemetery.
