Charles A. Palmer, 81, Warfordsburg, Pa., died Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at Woodland Retirement Community, Orbisonia.

He was born in Warfordsburg on May 8, 1928, the son of the late John Willard and Belva (Akers) Palmer. He was the widower of Catherine M. (Mellott) Palmer, whom he married on September 11, 1948, and she passed away on July 21, 2009.

He was a member of Warfordsburg Presbyterian Church, Warfordsburg, where he served as a trustee, deacon and elder, the Warfordsburg IOOF Lodge# 601, Southern Fulton School Board, Fulton County Farm Bureau, FSA County Board, Southern States Board and Agway Board.

He was a 4-H Club leader, a Bethel Township Supervisor and operated Pigeon Cove Farm from 1948 until his retirement in 1990. He was also an avid hunter and gardener.

He is survived by daughter Cheryl C. (wife of Clem) Ciampa of Saltillo, Pa.; son Lonnie W. (husband of Debra) Palmer, Warfordsburg; daughter Ellen M. (wife of Sonny) Weicht, of Warfordsburg; daughter Rebecca L. (wife of Douglas) Mellott, Warfordsburg; brothers: Frank Palmer, Warfordsburg; Gorman Palmer, Hagerstown; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by sisters: Reba Hill, Marie Crist, and Blanche Morse; and brothers: Warren and Hayes Palmer and infant brothers: John and Samuel Palmer.

Funeral services will be held at Warfordsburg Presbyterian Church, at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 13, with Pastor Edward Blank and Pastor Richard Bernhard officiating. Interment will be at Warfordsburg Presbyterian Cemetery.

There will be visitation on Thursday, November 12, 2009, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Warfordsburg Presbyterian Faith Center, 12941 Buck Valley Rd., Warfordsburg. There will also be visitation one hour before the service at the church on Friday.

A lodge service will be held on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. by the IOOF.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Warfordsburg Presbyterian Church, in care of Diana Kincaid, 6251 Thompson Road, Needmore, PA 17238 or the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
