Medical Center Auxiliary News

Fulton County Medical Center Auxiliary wishes to thank everyone who attended the food and crafts sale held at the Medical Center on Friday, October 16, during the Fulton Fall Folk Festival. In spite of the inclement weather, we actually had a larger profit this year as compared to last. There was a nice selection of homemade goodies, including 150 quarts of soup and 33 pies. We sold all of the decorative cubes and quite a few of the starfish ornaments that were made in workshops over the summer. Our supply of scrubbies and towel sets was nearly depleted at the end of the day. We are busy replenishing our stock so there will be plenty to choose from for the Christmas Bazaar to be held on Friday, December 11.

A meeting of the auxiliary was held on October 5 with 15 members and staff in attendance. Planning for the FFFF sale was the main agenda item. An update on activities at FCMC was provided, and planning began for events happening in December – the Christmas bazaar on December 11 and the Tree of Love Ceremony on December 13.

A proposal was made on possibilities for expanding the support auxiliary members provide to the activities department in long-term care at the Medical Center. Members currently assist with the beauty shop on Tuesdays and Thursdays and with other activities as scheduled. There are many other opportunities to become involved and improve the quality of life for the residents. These include transport for activities, helping with lunch or dinner, visiting with the residents and organizing special programs. Members and others from the local community should contact Sandy Land of the auxiliary or Elisha Feight, activity director for long-term care 717-485- 6170, if they would like more information or wish to volunteer.

Elaine Armstrong, Sally Cover and Sarah Gordon were appointed to the Nominating Committee. Members should contact one of them if they are willing to run for office. Election will be held at the December meeting.

The auxiliary sponsored the fifth annual Women’s Health Fair held October 19-23 in the lobby of the Medical Center. Auxiliary members were available to share information about the auxiliary and to encourage individuals to join. We also held a raffle as a fundraiser. Vera Brown won a pink throw with a pink ribbon motif created by Betty Shelley. Mindy Brown won the awareness tote containing a variety of items for a woman’s health. Thanks to everyone who participated in the raffle.

We encourage Fulton County residents of all ages to join and be a part of our efforts to support Fulton County Medical Center. You can find an application on the FCMC Web page at http://www.fcmcpa.org/auxiliary.h tml or pick up a brochure in the lobby of the hospital.

The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 7, at 10 a.m. in the activities room. At that meeting we will be planning the Christmas bazaar to be held on December 11. Our officers are Betty Shelley, president; Jean McLucas, vice president; Nancy Younker, recording secretary; Sarah Gordon, corresponding secretary; and Carol Mellott, treasurer. Elaine Armstrong is membership chair.
