Recently, McConnellsburg FFA Chapter members: Taylor Morton, Mandi Lynch, Kirsten Mellott, Emily Wenschhof, Kristin Hawbaker, Paul Hock, Lucas Banks, and Robbie Christopher of the McConnellsburg FFA Chapter attended the National FFA Convention held October 20-24 in Indianapolis, Ind.

The theme of the 82nd annual National FFA Convention was “Lead Out Loud.” The motivational speakers, workshops, and activities that were provided at this convention gave the students, who came from all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, ideas about how to be better leaders. The FFA, which was established in 1928, had over 50,000 members in attendance this year.

While staying in Indianapolis, the McConnellsburg FFA attended the opening session, in which Mike Rowe from “Dirty Jobs” was the guest speaker. Along with opening session, they also toured the career show where they were able to meet with representatives from various colleges and businesses to discuss options for their future, and visited the Pennsylvania booth and other state FFA booths in the Hall of States. During their free time, the students took tours of Harrison College, Fair Oaks Farms and Indianapolis Speedway. They also attended a bulls and broncs rodeo held in Indiana State Fairgrounds as well as a Toby Keith and The Eli Young Band concert, which was held at the Lucas Oil Stadium. The FFA also visited the Indianapolis Zoo, played laser tag and visited a haunted house.

“Opening session was awesome,” stated Paul Hock, chaplain of the McConnellsburg FFA Chapter. “The laser show was amazing and Mike Rowe, the keynote speaker, really inspired me.”
