The 2009 racing season in Central PA came to an end Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway, which had its finale for its Saturday Night Series.
With a rare Friday night event for the normal Saturday night divisions, Frankie Herr and 2009 champion Carmen Perigo Jr. split the Twin 20s for Super Sportsman.
The wins by both drivers were ironic as neither had won all season. Herr is the three-time defending series champion, and Perigo went winless in all points races this season but won the overall title.
Herr won the first main over Leroy Martin, Jason Fy, Russ Mitten and Ryan Rupp, while Perigo topped Rupp, Fry, Scott Dellinger and Mitten in the second feature.
Gene Knaub recorded his 11th overall win in 358 late model action over Bobby Beard, Ron Little, Sr., Bernie Beard and Mike Walls.
The World Finals will end the racing season coming up this weekend at the Dirt Track at Lowes Motor Speedway, where both the World of Outlaw sprints and Late Models will be in action and both series will crown their 2009 champions. Both points races will come down to the wire as Donny Schatz leads Jason Meyers by 19 points in the Sprints and Steve Francis leads Josh Richards by four points. All time trials will take place on Thursday with Friday and Saturday night being two complete shows. Saturday night’s program will be shown live on Speed at 8 p.m.
