Racing Roundup

By Brad Vores

Who said Mother Nature can’t be out-tricked! Don’t tell the folks at Hagerstown Speedway that as they defied Mother Nature on Saturday to complete all qualifying for the 22nd annual Octoberfest 350. Despite a late start due to all of the rain the area received Friday and Saturday, Hagers-town spun off all qualifying and consolations in less than four hours Saturday evening to prepare for Sunday’s feature racing.

York’s Rick Eckert picked up a third career Octoberfest Late Model win on Sunday after inheriting the lead when DJ Myers encountered mechanical woes. He then drove to the win over Jason Covert, Roy Deese Jr., Gary Stuhler and Vic Coffey. Completing the top 10 were Jeremy Miller, Frankie Plessinger, Dylan Yoder, Tim McCreadie and Tim Fuller. Marvin Winters finished 17th.

Chad Layton wired the 50-lap 410 Sprint car feature for his second career win in the event. Layton was driving a car owned by his brother, Jimmy, in his win over Lance Dewease, Don Kreitz Jr., Cliff Brian and Keith Kauffman.

Tim McCreadie won the 100- lap Small Block Modified feature over Meme Desantis, Billy Pauch Jr., Billy Decker and Jeff Strunk while Brett Hearn took the win in the Big Block Modified feature over J.R. Heffner, Pat Ward, Ryan Godown and Jimmy Horton.

Lincoln and Williams Grove speedways weren’t so lucky as both tracks had their season finales for 410 Sprints rained out of the weekend. The Grove was scheduled for Saturday night and the Fallfest and that event has been canceled. Williams Grove does have one final race this Friday night, but that will be Twin 20s for Super Sportsman along with the 358 Late Models, Street Stocks and 4-cylinders.

That will do it for this week as we are still thrilled with an awesome Penn State performance at Ann Arbor on Saturday night! So until next time, e-mail reaches me at Bvores@comcast.net.
