American Legion Holds Meeting

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 561 held its regular meeting October 14 at 7:00 p.m. There were 11 members present and four new members were voted in. The Americanism essay contest paperwork will be arriving at the schools next month. The title is “What Is My Patriotic Role As A U.S. Citizen?” The contest is open to any student in the Fulton County school districts in grades three to 12. In each class division, winning essays will be awarded a $50 U.S. Savings Bond.

A donation was made to American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary Christmas Hospital Tour. The tour will cover 17 VA hospitals and PA State Veterans Homes and hospitals distributing gifts to hospitalized veterans during the holiday season. A donation was also given to Hollidaysburg Veterans Home for the “Adopt A Veteran Program.” The donation will go toward the goal of every resident receiving a gift on Christmas Day.

Packages are being sent to soldiers overseas each month. If there is anyone who would like to have a package from the auxiliary sent to their loved one, son, daughter, aunt, uncle, please contact Joyce Mellott at 717-485- 5222 after 6:00 p.m. any evening.

As a pleasant reminder to all members, dues for the 2010 year are now being accepted. The next meeting will be November 11 at 7:00 a.m. All members are welcome.
