Beta Sigma Phi News

The sisters of Xi Eta Lambda, McConnellsburg chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, were quite active over the summer months. Meetings in July concentrated on getting the 2009 Fulton County Fair Queen Pageant organized for August. Finding contestants and judges, soliciting businesses for prizes, planning the decorations for the tea and the stage and making arrangements for entertainment during the tabulation of the scores as well as publicity with The Fulton County News for the pageant kept all the sisters busy in July.

Beginning Day was held on August 11 when the sisters traveled to Hagerstown for dinner and shopping. Sunday, August 16, began with decorating the stage for the pageant using the 2009-2010 theme “Share Our Passport to Adventure.” The contestants had a brief rehearsal then met the judges at a tea at the American Legion. The fair queen pageant was held in the evening and Mandi Lynch was crowned as the 2009 Fulton County Fair Queen. She will represent the county at the state pageant in January.

In September, the chapter was awarded a three-star rating for the previous year.
