Dwight I. Strait
Dwight I. Strait, 91, Harrisonville, died Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at his residence.
He was born September 9, 1918, in Harrisonville, the son of the late Palmer and Hazel (Sipes) Strait. He was married to Velma Hann Strait on September 2,1946.
He was employed by the Letterkenny Army Depot as a truck driver for 36 years. He served in the United States Army from March 29, 1941, until September 2, 1945. He earned the rank of tec fifth grade quarter master in the 28th Infantry Division. He was a prisoner of war from December 1944 until April of 1945 in the German Prisonor-of-War Camp XIIIC near Mooseburg, Germany.
He was a member of the Asbury Methodist Church in Harrisonville, Pa. He enjoyed spending his time hunting and fishing, and tending to large gardens he planted every spring.
Surviving are one son Lynn (husband of Faye) Strait of Chambersburg; and one daughter, Vada Strait of Ebensburg, Pa.; two grandchildren: Miranda (wife of Burt) Heckman of Chambersburg, and Marcy (wife of Robert) Weyant of Fayetteville; three great-grandchildren: Ashley, Brittany, Chelsea and Emily Weyant of Fayetteville; and Samantha, Seth and Shelby Heckman and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Strait, in October of 2000; his parents, Palmer and Hazel Strait; three brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 19, 2009, at Asbury Methodist Church in Harrisonville. Interment was held at Asbury Methodist Cemetery with the Rev. William Bair officiating. Fulton Honor Guard conducted a military funeral.
