Driver Charged After Boy, 5, Left On School Bus

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Pittsburgh Public Schools police have charged a school bus driver with child endangerment after a 5- year-old kindergarten student was left in the driver’s parked bus after falling asleep.

The Associated Press could not locate a home telephone for 38-year-old Carlos Torres, of Pittsburgh, who is suspended by the bus company, W.L. Roenick Excavating and Transportation of Cheswick. Officials there say they won’t take more action against Torres until the criminal charge is resolved.

School officials say the boy woke up after Torres parked the bus in front of his house after his Wednesday morning route.

The boy got out of the bus and started knocking on doors when a resident called 911.
