Supports SF Reward Trips

To the Editor:

I write this that it may be directed to those who are against the Southern Fulton PSSA reward trips. You say that Chase Duckwall needs to get his facts straight, but it is you who are blinded by avarice that have strayed from the truth. I agree with the words of Derek Younker that these trips are the one incentive for our students that don’t do as well to try harder and make the AYP (annual yearly progress) so that our school isn’t lost to other authorities. Like Derek said before, you are worried now about paying a small amount of taxes to support these reward trips. However, if our school doesn’t make the AYP, the school will change hands and you will have a larger sum to pay to support their methods.

Also, has anyone ever ventured to figure out what was wrong with the student in question during the testing window this past March? I agree with Chase when he says that there may have been something on the student’s mind during the testing days that kept them from doing their best, resulting in their making proficient in one section, yet missing the same score in the other section by just a few points. They have a chance to redeem themselves in March of 2010 when they take the PSSAs again and now that they know that they have a mistake to correct, they will try harder.

So now you have some of my own input. With these words, not only do you have senior class officers defending but also the entire student body of the Classes of 2010 and 2011 against your ideas. And why stop there? Since the outcome of this will directly affect every other student after us, the entire student population from Southern Fulton Jr./Sr. High School will rise up and state their own opinions. What have you that can shatter the hardened, determined souls of more than 400 academic students? I urge all of my fellow classmates to begin to state their opinions all across the district, and I hope to see more developments from both sides soon.
