$1,300 Raised At Women’s Cancer Benefit Luncheon
The first annual “Fight Like A Girl” cancer benefit luncheon on October 3, 2009, was a grand success. A nice lunch was provided as well as silent auction items and a raffle. A wonderful time of fellowship was had by all.
The committee began with heartfelt thanks and a candlelighting ceremony. Emcee and Chairwoman Deb Toothman shared that the “Fight Like A Girl” title meant to her, “Women fighting together for each other.” Lakin Toothman spoke on cancer as a whole. Megan Barnett, P.A., was the guest speaker for the day and shared helpful information as well as information to take home. She was able to speak with many others one-on-one during the day. Recipients Shannon Brown and Arlene Umbrell were there to receive Longaberger Horizon of Hope travel mugs and engraved plaques.
Shannon Brown’s proceeds will be given to the school where she teaches on Breast Care Awareness for young girls. Other cancer survivors were at the luncheon and shared their number of years as a survivor. One survivor, Estella Mellott, shared she is a survivor of 43 years. Toothman said she hopes that they can make this an annual event and help even more people.
There’s nothing that a group of determined women can’t accomplish.”
