Velma C. Lake
Mrs. Velma C. (Gordon) Lake, 93, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy, Pa., and formerly of Waynesboro, Pa., died Tuesday evening, September 29, 2009, in Waynesboro Hospital. She had been in failing health for the past three months and critically ill for the past week.
Born October 26, 1915, in Fulton County, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Anna Sophia (Houck) Gordon. After living her early life in Mc- Connellsburg, she lived most of her life in the Waynesboro area.
She attended McConnellsburg schools.
She and her husband, the late Woodrow R. Lake, were married on June 16, 1934, in Fulton County, Pa. They moved to Pen Mar Road in 1955. Mr. Lake died on December 30, 1980. Mrs. Lake entered the nursing home in May 2003.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Rouzerville United Methodist Church, Rouzerville, Pa.
She enjoyed working on embroidery.
She is survived by five daughters: Connie S. Welch of Waynesboro; Barbara K. Tavares of Waynesboro; Linda Koons of Mc- Connellsburg; Judy L. Fry of Waynesboro and Wanda L. Eichelberger of Waynesboro; one son, Donald E. Lake of Woodbridge, Va.; 11 grandchildren; 14 greatgrandchildren; four great-greatgrandchildren; one sister, Mary Richards of McConnellsburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Todd Koons; one infant daughter; one sister, Margaret Virginia; and two brothers, C. Kenneth Gordon and Roy W. Gordon.
Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 3, 2009, in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. Rev. Guy Baer, officiated. Burial was in Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery, Harrisonville.
