Police: Couple Use Girl, 3, As Shoplifting Shield
UNIONTOWN, Pa. (AP) – State police say a southwestern Pennsylvania couple used their 3- year-old daughter as a shield when they pushed a shopping cart containing a stolen computer out of a Wal-Mart store.
Police say 27-year-old Derek Vivio and 24-year-old Jessica Henderson, both of Belle Vernon, had their daughter lie on top of the computer as they pushed it out of the store in a shopping cart in South Union Township.
The incident took place on Sept. 29. On Monday, police say they filed charges after reviewing surveillance video and interviewing the couple who allegedly confessed.
Online court records don’t list attorneys for the couple, who do not have a listed home telephone.
Police say Vivio told them he “disposed’’ of the $848 computer, but wouldn’t say how.
