PA Mom Ordered To Stand Trial In Son’s Drowning
MONESSEN, Pa. (AP) – A Pittsburgh-area single mother has been ordered to stand trial in the drowning death of her 7- month-old son, who authorities say was left in a bathtub while she was outside smoking and talking with neighbors.
Twenty-two-year-old Seairia (suh-REE’-uh) Henderson, of Monessen, cried Friday as friends testified that she was outside while son Malachi and her 2-yearold daughter were in an upstairs bathroom on Sept. 11. The boy died two days later.
Henderson was ordered to stand trial on charges of criminal homicide, endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person.
Defense attorney Brian Aston called the boy’s death a “tragic accident’’ and said his client is suffering more than anything the criminal justice system could do to her.
