American Legion Holds Meeting

By Carol Singel

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 561 held its regular meeting on September 9 at 7:00 p.m. There were 10 members present. The auxiliary hosted a joint installation of officers at the post, with units from Fort Loudon and St. Thomas attending.

Donations were made to World Family Kids Camp, Ride the Pride of the Susquehanna, which takes veterans on the cruise for free, and to Liberty Crouse, a little girl with cancer. Plans are being made to visit Leisure Living and for the Americanism essay contest. This year’s title will be “What Is My Patriotic Role as a U.S. Citizen.” More information will follow next month. As a reminder to all members, dues for the 2010 year are now being accepted.

Packages are being sent to soldiers overseas each month. If there is anyone who would like to have a package from the auxiliary sent to their loved one, please contact Joyce Mellott at 717-485-5222 after 6:00 p.m. any evening.

The next meeting will be October 14 at 7:00 p.m. All members are welcome.
