Bertha J. Deneen
She was born in Amaranth on Thursday, June 5, 1930, the daughter of the late Alfred R. and Emma M. (Smith) Decker.
On May 3, 1950, she married Elwood William Deneen. He preceded her in death on October 25, 1989.
She is survived by daughter Emma Doreen, wife of Terry Blair, Bedford; daughter Patti Jo, wife of Kenneth Settle, Fort Mill, S.C.; daughter-in-law Mary (Thomas) Deneen, Altoona; brother Alfred “Jim” Decker, Warfordsburg; sister Cora Clingerman, Warfordsburg; grandson Richard E. Deneen Jr., Altoona; grandson Daniel E. Deneen, Altoona; granddaughter Jailee D. (Deneen) wife of Charles Singer, Crystal Spring; grandson Kenny E. Settle, Fort Mill, S.C., and seven great-grandchildren: Evan, Kassidy, Jermaine, Renee, Hunter, Jayme and Jaelynn.
She was preceded in death by sons: Roy Leon Decker and Richard E. “Packey” Deneen Sr.; grandson James Deneen; brother, Lloyd “Bud” Decker and sisters: Beluah Rohrabaugh and Leotta Omps.
She was a member of Akersville Community Church and was employed at the Crystal Spring Rest Area for the state of PA as a custodian.
She was a member of Whips Cove Secret Pals for 60 years and was the judge of elections for Brush Creek Township for 28 years. She enjoyed attending church services and reading her Bible. She was a gifted craftmaker and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Jerusalem Christian Church, Wafordsburg, at noon on Monday, September 28, 2009. Rev. Lowell Bard and Rev. Delmas Bard officiated. Interment was at Jerusalem Christian Church Cemetery.
