FULTON FALL FOLK FESTIVAL ACTIVITIES
Fulton House Museum The Fulton House Museum at 114 Lincoln Way East in McConnellsburg will be open free to the public throughout the three-day weekend of October 16, 17, and 18 with a loaned display of children’s toys and a Civil War exhibit including a sword and photo of LaFayette Baker who directed the hunt for John Wilkes Booth after President Lincoln’s assassination.
Old-Fashioned Country Breakfast Fulton County Community Christian School Boosters Club will serve an old-fashioned country breakfast Saturday, October 17, from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The menu will include pancakes, scrambled eggs, ham and sausage, sausage gravy, home fries, biscuits, dessert, juice and coffee. Historical Society Meeting Professor Karl Reisner of Mercersburg Academy will speak on “James Buchanan, A Misunderstood Leader,” at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 15, 2009, in McConnellsburg United Presbyterian Church on South Second Street, McConnellsburg. Sponsored by the Fulton County Historical Society, the meeting is free and open to the public as an event for Fulton Fall Folk Festival weekend.
Quilt Show Fulton County Quilt Club will hold its 29th annual quilt show at the Fulton Theatre. Show dates are Friday, October 16, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Saturday, October 17, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Sunday, October 18, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Quilts may be dropped off at the theatre Wednesday evening, October 14, between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and Thursday, October 15, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The raffle quilt drawing will be at 4:00 p.m. on October 18. Fulton House Log Cabin Beef barley soup, scones and pie will be sold in the log cabin behind the Fulton House on October 16 and 17, with live music by the “Country Cousins” over the noon hour on Friday. Bring pie donations to the cabin as early as possible. Proceeds will benefit the museum fund. Contact Edie Coleman 814-735-3039.
House Tour Six Fulton County buildings will be featured in a weekend tour during the Fulton Fall Folk Festival with admission by donation to the Fulton County Historical Society. Homes open near Mc- Connellsburg are those of Brent and Erin Peck Pistner built in 1920, and Matthew and Robin Wakefield built by Michael Binder in 2006, along with St. Paul’s United Church of Christ built 1895 and featuring a photo display commemorating its 175th anniversary. In the southern Fulton area are Apple Valley Alpaca Farm of Larry and Susan Burkins, the 1793 farmhouse with 1890 and 1907 additions of Michael and Carolyn Klingerman, along with Damascus Church built 1904 with eight new stained glass windows and a handpainted Last Supper mural. Winegardner School Five Fulton County school desks from the recent Martz sale in Hustontown have been added to the Winegardner one-room schoolhouse that will be open for free tours during the Fall Folk Festival. Contact Dick Newman at 814-685-3497.
Historical Society Raffle A drawing will be held at the Fulton House, McConnellsburg, on October 18, 2009, for five prizes, including a onenight stay at Crampton Manor bed and breakfast, a framed water color of the Garlock round barn, a set of holiday postcards mailed 1908-1911, a handpainted antique cheese box and a mint 1936 Sesquicentennial book of McConnellsburg. Bake/Yard/Craft Sale Warfordsburg Senior Center will be having a bake/yard/craft sale on October 15 and 16 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., during the Fulton Fall Folk Festival. Outside space will be available for $5. More information may be obtained by calling 294-6020.
Second TIme Around Fashion Show Now is the time to get an exclusive outfit at Second Time Around in Waterfall for the annual fashion show at the fall festival in Waterfall October 17. Come in Tuesday or Thursday, noon until 3:00 p.m. or Saturday, noon until 2:00 p.m. Pick out an outfit and wear it, no charge if you model it and it’s yours to keep free. Also a chance to win a prize.
Breakfast Buffet Cito United Methodist Church will be serving a breakfast buffet on Saturday, October 17, from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Cito Fellowship Hall located at 3746 Cito Road, McConnellsburg. The buffet-style breakfast will include pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, hash browns, chipped beef gravy, toast, orange juice and coffee. Donations accepted. Proceeds will benefit fulton county Community Christian School, Fulton County Food Basket and Hope for Africa Children’s Ministry.
