Yoder "Fits" In Top Spot In Youth Showmanship Contest

Janelle Yoder, 20, of Huntingdon, Pa., topped 96 other contestants in the senior division of the 12th Youth Showmanship Contest held Sunday, Sept. 20, at the All-American Dairy Show in Harrisburg, Pa.

The daughter of Betsy and Willard Yoder Jr., Janelle has been showing in the contest for three years, having once made the semifinal round.

"I was really nervous because even though I've clipped a lot, I haven't done many toplines," she said.

The senior division includes ages 16-21. The top 10 showmanship winners went on to compete in a clipping and fitting contest.

Mary Creek of Hagerstown, Md., judged the showmanship portion and then collaborated with the fitting judge, Tom Uber of Adamsville, Pa., to place the top 10.

The remaining winners were:

Second - Matthew McCombs, Wheeling, W.Va.

Third - Austin Swartzbeck, Union Bridge, Md.

Fourth - Melissa Schuler, Fleetwood, Pa.

Fifth - Joshua Ebert, Blairsville, Pa.

Sixth - Seth Ripley, Moravia, N. Y.

Seventh - Lauren Nell, Gettysburg, Pa.

Eighth - Kaitlyn Corbett, Williamsport, Md.

Ninth - Jordan Kennedy, Butler, Pa.

Tenth - Troy Longenecker, Annville, Pa.

Yoder received a $500 Savings Bond sponsored by the Centre/ Clinton County Holstein Club, a director's chair donated by Bob and Jane Pepple of Oxford, Pa., a jacket, an embroidered blanket, a neck ribbon and a cash prize.

The Pennsylvania Junior Guernsey Association sponsored a $75 Savings Bond for the first place Guernsey showman, Seth Ripley of Moravia, N.Y., and the Ayrshire Breeder's Association donated a show halter for the top Ayrshire showman, Megan Raber of Creston, Ohio.

All participants received milkshakes sponsored by the Pennsylvania Dairymen's Association.
