New ID Made On Pa. Suspect Shot Dead By Officer

BEDMINISTER, Pa. (AP) - Authorities in suburban Philadelphia say they now believe a burglary suspect shot and killed by police was 40-year-old Brian Simmermon of Rieglesville in northeastern Bucks County.

Coroner Joseph Campbell says Simmermon had a prison ID and a state ID on him, and he was identified through the photo on the state ID. He says fingerprints are being used to confirm the identification.

Police earlier identified the suspect as 45-year-old Jonathan Fineman, but prosecutors say he had operated under an alias. Authorities say he was a suspect in many burglaries and vehicle thefts in the area.

On Friday he led officers on a pursuit that began in Plumstead and ended a few miles north on Route 611 in Bedminister when he crashed a stolen pickup truck. Police say an officer fired when the man reached toward his waistband, thinking he was reaching for a handgun taken during a recent burglary. Prosecutors say it turned out to be large industrial scissors.
