Virginia A. Bivens
Virginia "Ginny" A. Bivens, 89, Fulton County Medical Center Long-Term Care Unit, Mc- Connellsburg, and formerly of Big Cove Tannery, died Sunday, August 30, 2009.
She was born in Doylestown, Pa., December 31, 1919, the daughter of the late G. LeRoy and Alma (Weisel) Shutt. She was the widow of Bruce O. Bivens, whom she married on July 31, 1945, in Frankfurt, Germany. He preceded her in death April 27, 2004.
She was a member of Laurel Ridge Christian Church, Big Cove Tannery.
She was a farm wife and in her earlier yeas, she was an Army nurse during World War II. She loved her family and enjoyed reading.
She is survived by her sons: David B. Bivens, husband of Nancy, Big Cove Tannery; Harry L. Bivens, husband of Alma, Big Cove Tannery; daughter, Nancy E. Younker, wife of Carl, Big Cove Tannery; brother Leroy Shutt, husband of Vera, Carlisle; seven grandchildren; and 12 greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Shutt; and two sisters: Maretta Detweiler and Esther Fellman.
Funeral services will be held at Laurel Ridge Christian Church, Big Cove Tannery, at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 3. Pastor David Hamilton will officiate. Interment will be at Laurel Ridge Christian Church Cemetery, Big Cove Tannery.
There will be visitation on Wednesday, September 2, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Laurel Ridge Christian Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Laurel Ridge Building Fund, Reuban Brady, 2943 Laurel Ridge Road, Big Cove Tannery, PA 17212.
Military services will be conducted by the Fulton Honor Guard.
