School Bus Driver Asks Motorists To Be Alert, Slow Down
To The Editor:
That was a great article entitled "PennDOT Reminds Drivers, Students To Be Alert," located on page B5 of the August 27, 2009, issue of your paper. The safety of our school students is very important, and I am wondering why this article couldn't have appeared on the front page of the paper or at least inside the second page in a huge block ad so everyone would see it, not in the back of the paper where hardly anyone would notice it.
I have been driving a school bus for the Central Fulton School District for the past 10 years, and I must say that every year drivers are becoming more aggressive, trying to beat my stoplights. A big part of my route is along Route 522. Countless times I have had drivers completely ignore my stoplights and go right on by when I am boarding or discharging students. People, please, when you see the yellow lights flashing that means the bus is about to stop. Please slow down. Don't try to hurry by. Be prepared to top when the red lights come on. Think about how you would feel if your children were on that bus. My job is to see that your children get to and from school safely. I am asking that you be considerate and help me do just that.
