100-Year-Old Pa. Man Beaten, Robbed

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Philadelphia police are investigating the brutal beating and robbery of a 100-year-old man in broad daylight.

Detectives say the elderly man was choked and thrown to the ground on Wednesday.

Police say the attacker then began slamming the man's head on the concrete sidewalk. The suspect made off with groceries and $30 in cash from the victim's pocket and fled.

The 100-year-old man was treated at the hospital for bleeding on the brain and released. His name was not released.

Neighbors on the 6700 block of Grovers Ave. in Southwest Philadelphia say they're shocked by the attack. They describe the man as nice and friendly.

Police are planning to go doorto door seeking more information on the attack.
