Pa. Town Of New Hope To Bikers: Keep It Down!

NEW HOPE, Pa. (AP) - A touristy Bucks County town with a biker-friendly reputation is trying to get those bikers to quiet down their hogs.

New Hope Police Chief Mike Cummings says since early April, borough officers have issued 30 citations for motorcycle noise, a $300 offense. There were just 28 citations issued in all of 2008.

Some business owners say all the noisy motorcycles on New Hope's Main Street is bad for business.

But biker clothing store owner Joe Wynne says it's not fair to punish someone who's just sitting in traffic trying to find a parking spot. He says the motorcyclists "are professional people, not outlaws.''

New Hope is about 35 miles northeast of Philadelphia.
