Historical Society News

Tom Irwin of West St. Paul, Minn., donated to the Fulton County Historical Society a copy of his 2009 book on Ancestors and Descendants of John Noble Irwin.

John Irwin was born in 1818 in Ayr Township near McConnellsburg as the 12th of 15 children of Andrew Irwin. He married Mary Ann Conrad, also of Mc- Connellsburg. Six of their seven children later migrated to Dell Rapids, S.D. That town had been founded by John's brother-in-law, Robert Sloan Alexander, a native of McConnellsburg.

The 234-page book has many family photos. Of special interest are two transcribed letters dated 1835 and 1837 from Jared Irwin of McConnellsburg to his brother, William, in Marion County, Ohio. Relatives who would like to contact the author may use his email address: IrwinFamilyTree@ aol.com

The Historical Society library will reopen soon. Books are being arranged on shelves now. Volunteers who would have a few hours to help at the library may phone Mary Black at 987-3966.
