The last weekend before school starting had beautiful weather for everyone to enjoy before going back to school after summer vacation, which seemed to be too short.

Congratulations to the Everett High School golf team on winning the Bedford County tournament Monday at Bedford Springs. Jesse Newman, Dylan Gelvin and Andrew King from Forbes Road High School are members of the team. Jesse placed third overall individually.

Gwendolyn Aurand of Lewistown spent a couple days last week with Grace Heefner. They spent a day in Lancaster visiting with Kermit Heefner. Glad to hear he is doing fine.

Jerre and Fran Mellott hosted the annual women's softball picnic on Saturday. There were 12 teams plus Fran's daughter, Lorie, and son attending. Lois Clark provided houses for everyone so they could enjoy horseback riding and also a wagon ride. Food was enjoyed by all and also reminiscing with friends.

Hustontown Fire Co. will sponsor a food auction Friday, September 11 at 6:00 p.m. The kitchen will open at 5:00 p.m. The fire company will also sponsor shooting matches beginning October 3 at 1:00 p.m. More details laters.

Happy birthday wishes to Gary Torcasco, August 19; Fran Mellott, August 20; Patsy Gelvin, August 22; Dylan Gelvin, August 26. Also, happy birthday to Michael Torcasco on August 25 and Shawn Berkstresser on August 27.

This item was intended for last week: Our sympathy is extended to Arlie Knepper and relatives on the loss of his brother, Chalmer. Arlie wishes to thank everyone for their consideration and the company and prayers and for thinking of him.

June Bennett visited with her mother, Kate Berkstresser on Saturday. Also, Bill and Donald Berkstresser stopped by to visit.

Probably everyone who worked or had livestock, etc. at the fair were glad to be finished due to the hot weather.

A festival will beheld at Center United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 29, at 4:00 p.m. Come out and enjoy the evening.

Household hint: When patching the knees of gardening jeans or jeans of people who work on their knees, leave the top of each patch open like a pocket so you can slip in pieces of foam rubber for knee pads. This makes kneeling work more comfortable.
