Pa. Woman Walking Dog Finds 1773 Tombstone
BOVARD, Pa. (AP) _ State police are seeking more information about a gravestone dating from 1773 that a woman found while walking her dog in western Pennsylvania.
Police say the woman found the headstone Tuesday about 9:30 p.m. while walking her dog in the Bovard section of Hempfield Township. The township is about 30 miles east of Pittsburgh.
Police say the headstone bears the name Catherine Mechling and the date 1773.
Troopers are keeping the stone in their evidence room at the Greensburg barracks and hope Mechling's relatives or others who might know of her will come forward with more information.
It was not immediately clear if the woman was walking in an unknown graveyard or if the stone came from another location.
