Edward L Yonker Jr.
Edward L. Yonker Jr., 81, of Stottlemyer Road, Little Orleans, Md., and formerly of Greencastle, Pa., died Wednesday, August 5, 2009, at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore.
Born August 28, 1927, in Little Orleans, Md., he was the son of the late Edward L. Yonker Sr. and Maye Carnell Yonker.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.
He had been employed by Fairchild in Hagerstown, Md., had been self-employed in the retail sales of manufacturing housing and was a farmer.
He was a member of Piney Plains United Methodist Church, Little Orleans.
He was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a member of Mt. Pisgah Lodge 0443, Greencastle.
He was a member of South Penn Scottish Rite Club of Harrisburg Consistory; Webster B. Harrison Post 26 American Legion, Hancock, Md.; Loyal Order of the Moose Mercersburg Lodge 1790 and a member of AARP.
He is survived by his wife, Wilda J. Swain Yonker, whom he married June 20, 1951, at Piney Plains United Methodist Church; one son, Edward L. Yonker III of Mercersburg; one sister, Pauline Ward of Warfordsburg; one brother, George Yonker of Little Orleans, Md.; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters: Zella Minnick, Mary Anderson and Erma Alexander; and two brothers: Delmar Yonker and Ralph Yonker.
Services were held Saturday, August 8, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, Hancock, Md. Rev. John Close officiated. Burial with a military service by the Tri-State Honor Guard was held in Piney Plains United Methodist Cemetery.
