Mabel Wilda Brady

Mabel Wilda Brady, 97, peacefully passed away Thursday, August 6, 2009, at Fulton County Medical Center.

She was born in Webster Springs, W.Va., on January 20, 1912, the daughter of the late Samuel Wade and Elizabeth Jane (McCray) Brady.

Mabel worked on her family's farm until she moved to Mc- Connellsburg. She worked at the Ft. Loudon sewing factory until she began babysitting her "sweetie pie,'' Charla Renee, until she began kindergarten in 1986.

She enjoyed spending time in her kitchen and crocheting afghans, hats and dresses for dolls. Working in her flower and vegetable gardens and tending to her peeps in the chicken coop were daily chores she also enjoyed. Sunday dinner, going to the senior center, watching her "stories'' and playing tri-ominos were all things she looked forward to each day.

Mabel is survived by eight nieces and nephews, Charlene Gordon, Shirley Gordon, Mary Mellott, Virginia Cantner, Lamont Brady, John Brady, Reuben Brady and Merrill Gordon; 16 great-nieces and nephews: Charla Gordon, Paula Shives, Lester Allen Smith, Trudy Exline, Karen Noll, Linda Martin, Pam Sherman, Keith Brady, Kevin Brady, Kristina Orth, Michael Brady, Marsha Miller, Michelle Miller, Brian Brady, Sandy Crouse and Lisa Fischer; along with greatgreat nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Milford, Mayford, Melvin, Merrill, Minnie and Mildred "Millie'' Brady Gordon, and two great-nephews, Brian Mellott and Ken Brady.

Religious services were held at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., McConnellsburg, on Monday, August 10, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., with pastor Richard Bernhard officiating.

Interment was made in Laurel Ridge Christian Cemetery, Big Cove Tannery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Laurel Ridge Cemetery Association, in care of Rodney Mellott, 1857 Laurel Ridge Road, Big Cove Tannery, PA 17212.
