FCAVTS Readies for New School Year

As school bells get ready to ring again locally. The Fulton County Area Vocational Technical School (FCAVTS) anticipates greeting students for the 2009-2010 school year. The Southern Fulton High School students will begin reporting to vocational classes on August 25, with the Forbes Road and Mc- Connellsburg High School students starting on August 26.

Students enrolled in FCAVTS classes spend a portion of their day in programs offered through the vocational school and then spend the remainder of their day in academic classes at their home schools. Vocational training is avalaible in agricultural mechanics, agricultural production, allied health, building trades, business occupations, child care, drafting and design, horticulture and welding. Students are accepted for enrollment in grades 10, 11 and 12. Senior students who have met eligibility requirements may participate in a cooperative education experience. Cooperative education provides students with workforce training in an educationally supervised setting.

Students have the opportunity to become certified in the following areas: Pennsylvania pesticide applicator, national safe tractor & machinery operator, youth pork quality assurance (agricultural production and mechanics), Pennsylvania builders association (building trades), child development associate (child care), architectural drafting, mechnaical drafting (drafting & design), EKG, pharmacy technician, nurse aide registry, heartsaver AED, CPR, and first aide (Allied Health), and Level I & II (welding). The FCAVTS reimburses students all testing fees associated with obtaining an industry certifications, with a passing score.
