Tree Branch Kills Pa. Woman
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Police have identified a jogger killed by a falling tree branch in a Philadelphia park as 23-yearold Mary Katherine Ladany of the Roxborough section of the city. Police say it was a freak accident Wednesday evening in Fairmount Park.
Chief Inspector Scott Small says a 30-foot-long branch fell 50 feet onto Ladany, killing her instantly.
Police say Ladany was wearing a portable music player that was still playing when they arrived, so it's possible that she didn't hear the branch breaking.
A Manhattan computer engineer walking to work through Central Park last week was hit on the head by a 100-pound tree branch. His mother said over the weekend that he was getting better.
