Samuel E. England
He was born on July 22, 1923, in Everett, Pa., a son of the late Samuel E. England Sr. and Gladys M. (Burket) England. On October 5, 1946, in Winchester, Va., he married the former Erma A. (Wright) England.
Surviving are his wife, Erma A. England; two daughters: Sandra A., married to Michael Short, Everett; Denise K., married to Donald Foor, Bedford; three grandchildren: Tori, married to Todd Sheppard; Kyle Ledford and Mandie Otto; three greatgrandchildren: Samuel Sheppard, Haille Otto and Stella Otto.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Decan Devoe; a sister, Margaret Shipley, and an infant sister.
He was a member of Everett Church of the Brethren.
He attended Everett High School.
He served in the United States Army under General Patton during World War II as a tech 5, earning the Good Conduct Medal, EAME Theatre Service Medal with four bronze stars and the WWII Victory Medal. He was responsible for transporting fuel to the front line.
He drove truck for Continental Trucking for many years and also was owner/operator of his own truck.
He was a member of Everett American Legion Post No. 8 for over fifty years.
He enjoyed hunting, horseback riding, spending time with his Boston Terrier "Princess" and loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 31, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Akers Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Ramirez officiating.
Friends may call at Akers Funeral Home 299 Raystown Road, Everett, on Thursday, July 30, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Burial will be held at Everett Cemetery with full military services conducted by the Everett Area Honor Guard.
