Trial To Begin For Pa. Woman In Alleged Abduction Hoax

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (AP) - A suburban Philadelphia woman accused of faking her own abduction in May is scheduled to stand trial August 24 in Bucks County Court.

Thirty-eight-year-old Bonnie Sweeten waived formal arraignment Friday on charges of false reports and identity theft.

Authorities allege that on May 26 she called 911 and said she and her 9-year-old daughter had been abducted by two black men. But they say she used a former co-worker's driver's license to buy a plane ticket and check into a hotel at Walt Disney World.

Her attorney, Louis Busico, says it is too early to discuss his client's defense. He says she is receiving counseling.

FBI agents and Lower Southampton police searched Sweeten's home on Friday afternoon, but an FBI spokesman declined to say why. Busico says his client gave federal agents everything they were seeking and also handed over additional records, but he declined to say what they sought.
