Beta Sigma Phi Sorority News

The sisters of the Mc- Connellsburg Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, Xi Eta Lambda, participated in many events during April, May and June 2009. In April, the sisters ushered for the McConnellsburg High School musical. Xi Eta Lambda also hosted the Founder's Day Banquet for Iota Lambda and Preceptor Gamma Pi sororities on April 28 at the Sidling Hill Christian Church Social Hall. The theme, "Rekindle the Torch of Friendship" was used, and each sister received hands of friendship with a bead bracelet. After the meal, the Aughwick Band provided entertainment. Carol Strait and Vickie Gordon were chosen Women of the Year, and each received an engraved pewter plate.

The sisters met twice in May. The first time was on May 12 for a mother/daughter banquet at the Fort Family Restaurant. At the second meeting, recipients for scholarships from area high schools were selected. Justin Gordon from McConnellsburg High School and Olivia Strait from Forbes Road High School received awards at their graduations.

The chapter's birthday was celebrated and Beta Buddies were revealed during the first meeting in May that was held at the home of Susie Schmidt. The sisters also provided a snack for one night for Camp Cadet. The second meeting was held at Vickie Gordon's home. Elected officers for the 2009-10 year began their duties at this meting. The Legacy Ritual was held for Leah Mellott. Plans were formulated for the 2009 Fulton County Fair Queen Pageant.
