Benefit Dance Liberty Crouse community benefit dance will be on Saturday, August 1, 2009, at the alumni community building in Mc- Connellsburg from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The band Alliance will be playing. Donations and chaperones are needed. Anyone wishing to help in anyway please contact Mrs. Kathy J. Kendall at 485-0221.

Fall Youth Soccer Sign-ups Fall youth soccer registrations will be held at the McConnellsburg Lions Club Park on Monday, July 27, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Wednesday, July 29, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Friday, July 31, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Registrants are required to provide a copy of the chilld's birth certificate, complete a registration form, and pay the registration fee. Any child born prior to July 31, 2009, is eligible to play. Registration fees are $30 for first child and $25 for each additional child. Parent volunteers are needed. Please indicate at that time if willing to coach.

FREE Decoupage Class On Wednesday, July 29, the Fulton County Library will be offering an adult class on decoupage boxes with Jamie Shipley. The program will begin at 6 p.m. and conclude by 9 p.m. Each participant will take home a completed project or the materials to finish their project. No experience is necessary. Class size is limited, so call soon to register at 717-485-5327.

Senior Center Activities McConnellsburg Senior Center activities for August are as follows: lunch at Ryan's, Chambersburg, August 3, 10:00 a.m.; trip to Belleville, August 5, 7:00 a.m.; nickel bingo, 10:00 a.m., August 5, 7, 10, 12, 14, 17, 19, 21, 24, 26 and 28; blood pressure screening, 11:00 a.m., August 6; Bedford Wal-Mart and lunch, 9:00 a.m., August 11; macular degeneration/color blindness screening, 9:30 a.m., August 12; Bricktown Sr. Center lunch and nickel bingo, 9:00 a.m., August 18; trip to Belleville, 7:00 a.m., August 19; nutrition/craft class, 1:00 p.m., August 20; diabetic support group, 10:00 a.m., August 27; dime bingo, 10:00 a.m., August 31.

Trap Shoots Fulton County Rifle and Pistol Club wish to invite the public to practice trap shoots every Friday night until November 20 and trap shoots at noon the third Sunday of every month from now until the end of the year.

MHS Fall Sports Physicals Pre-season sports physicals will be given Wednesday, August 5, at 9:00 a.m. at the high school nurse's office for McConnellsburg High and Middle schools. Athletes participating in fall sports should report. Cost per athlete is $15. Sports physicals are mandatory for the first day of practice. Please be on time. More information may be obtained by contacting Greg Hays at 372- 1863 or the head coach. Any student athlete who does not make the assigned time will have to get forms from their head coach or the athletic director to take to the doctor and pay their fee.

Groundhog Contest The second annual Pennsylvania Groundhog Contest will be held August 1. Two-person teams are $30 per couple with great prizes for largest groundhog, heaviest groundhog and most groundhogs. Fee includes dinner and groundhog is not on the menu. Also X-card shoot, 5 regular and 5 .410 outlaw (bring your own shells) and a 200 yard rifle & pistol competition at 3 p.m., 2 classes factory and custom, trophies will be awarded, 5 shots at 200 yards, $5 entry fee.

Shade Gap Picnic The 126th annual Shade Gap Picnic will be held at Harpers Memorial Park, Shade Gap, July 26 thru August 1. Monday night will feature the annual parade at 7:00 p.m., along with nightly entertainment and also fireworks on Saturday, August 1, at 11:00 p.m. Sunday and Monday will be free admission and all other nights will be $2 per person with children under 12 are free.
