Smiths Celebrate 50th Anniversary
The couple celebrated on Saturday evening, June 20, with their children, grandchildren, many family members, several wedding attendants and close friends. Following a dinner prepared by the family and served by eight of Doris' sorority sisters, the couple shared the "Story of Their Life" in the church sanctuary. The video was made by Daryl Hixon and narrated by Bailey Elbin. Friends Roland and Becky Cline of Hancock honored the couple with a song entitled, "Love Is." The guests returned to the Upper Room for serving of the anniversary cake which was cut by Sylvia Shives and served by their four grandchildren: Bailey, Marley, Tanner Elbin and Tylar Smith, who were wearing personalized aprons and vest designed and made by Helen Layton. Approximately 110 guests attended from Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia and Florida. The wedding gown and bridesmaid dresses were displayed along with bride's portrait, bride's book, 25th anniversary book, family pictures, etc. Carolyn Pelton set up the display as well as creating beautiful flower arrangements throughout the social hall.
