Wilbert O. Keefer
Wilbert Oscar Keefer, 84, Mc- Connellsburg, died Thursday, June 25, 2009, at his home.
He was born December 2, 1924, in Webster Mills, Pa., the son of the late Thomas and Jesse (Mellott) Keefer. He was married to the late Elva Johnson Keefer.
He was employed by Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg as an automotive mechanic until his retirement in 1974. As well as working at Letterkenny, he owned and operated his family farm on Back Run Rd.
He was an of avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending time in the outdoors.
He served in the United States Army from 1941-1949 as a member of the 753rd Field Artillery Battalion.
He was a member of the Mc- Connellsburg American Legion Post 561 and a life member of the McConnellsburg F.O.V.A Post 655.
Surviving are five sons: Donald O. Keefer, Thomas E. (husband of Pam) Keefer, Edward J. (husband of Lori) Keefer, Ronald L.(husband of Lonnie) Keefer and Robert L. Keefer, all of Mc- Connellsburg; three daughters: Darlene K. (wife of Dennis) Gress, McConnellsburg, and Gaye A. (wife of Paul) Deshong of Annville, Pa., and Jessie Keefer of Germany; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Charles Keefer.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Thomas and Jesse Keefer; his wife, Elva M. Keefer; three brothers: Lee, Robert and Elmer Keefer; and three sisters: Alice K. Carbaugh, Maye Carbaugh and Ruth Rhodes.
Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 29, 2009, at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home in McConnellsburg. Interment was at Union Cemetery. Rev. Frank VanDerhoof officiated. Fulton Honor Guard conducted military services.
