Forrest R. Mellott Tournament Raises Over $17,000 For FCCCS

Mellott Memorial Golf Tournament held at Great Cove Golf and Recreation Club June 20, 2009, raised more than $17,000 to benefit the Fulton County Community Christian School. Last week at Great Cove saw the eighth annual Forrest R. Mellott Memorial tournament as well as the Father's Day Tournament. The 10th week of Great Cove Men's League took place on Thursday.

Despite rain early Saturday morning, the Forrest R. Mellott Memorial started on time at 9 a.m. The tournament was played as a fourman scramble and included 11 teams. The first-place team was made up of Emmert Banz-hoff, Mike Banzhoff, Matt Sigel and Chris Munson, who shot a 59. Second-place went to the team of Rick Mellott, Mike McGhee, Barry Ahearn and Kirk Heath, with a score of 59. Shooting a 60 for the thirdplace position were Scott Cromer, Landon Hol-linshead, Andy Cutchall and Drew Snyder. Tim Smailes, Steve Buser, Jennifer Halterman and Ryan Waugh won the fourth-place spot with a score of 60. Closest-to-the-pin winners were Emmert Banzhoff and Phil Moon.

The Father's Day Tournament on Sunday also dodged early rain, keeping tee times on schedule, starting at 8:30 a.m. Teams were made of two players, - father and child - and there were more than 15 teams. The teams of Doug and Dave Hoffman, and Ken and Kenneth Mayhugh tied for first, shooting 147s (combined score of both players). There also was a tie for third between Doug and Bob Hoffman, Patrick and Brian Shafer, and Eric and Jon Fisher. Each team scored a 148. Three teams tied for sixth, shooting 149s - Stephen and Mallory Cortis, Foster and Ryan Early, and Steve and Mark Weller.

In Men's League action, Mitch Ott and Eric Fisher took the lead Thursday, earning 7 points to put their total to 51. Pat Shafer and Randy Clever are in second with 49 points, and Bob George and Jeff Poffenberger are in third with 48.

The Mercersburg American Legion Tournament will be held this Saturday.
