Robert J. Leonard

Hustontown, 80

Robert J. Leonard, 80, Hustontown, died at 3:30 p.m., Friday, June 12, 2009, at his home with his family at his bedside.

Born in Greensburg, Pa., January 6, 1929, he was the son of the late Benjamin (Joe) and Josephine (Mellicant) Leonard.

After high school graduation, he joined the Navy and served in the Pacific on three ships, USS Harr E. Hubbard DD-748, USS Philippine Sea CV-47 and USS Deliver ARS-23 as a radio operator. Upon completion of his military service, he began his career at the Department of Defense where he retired after 35 years.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Nicoletta M. Leonard; his daughters: JoAnn M. Berry, Sharon A. Garcia and his son, Robert A. Leonard, along with four grandchildren.

He was a mebmer of St. Stephen Catholic Church of Mc- Connellsburg, for 25 years where he also served as an usher.

He enjoyed time spent with his family and his gardening. He also was a wonderful husband and outstanding father.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 16, at St. Stephen Catholic Church, McConnellsburg. Father Alan Thomas officiated. Burial was made in Burtonsville Union Cemetery, Burtonsville, Md.

Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., Harrisonville, was in charge of arrangements.
