Library Board Applications The Fulton County Library is currently accepting applications from interested individuals to serve on the Fulton County Library Board. The board is responsible for the wellbeing of the libraries and most policy decisions, and represents the community. Board members are non-paid officials appointed for a threeyear term. Library meetings are held at the Fulton County Library the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. Applications are available at the Fulton County Library. All applications must be received at the library no later than June 30, 2009.
Attention Fulton County Fair Participants Attention all fair exhibitors: premium books are no longer being mailed to exhibitors. Please see your local businesses to pick up this year's copy. Reminder: livestock entries must be received by July 15, 2009. Please mail to Fulton County Fair, PO Box 246, McConnellsburg, PA 17233. Rabbit checkin will be on Saturday, August 15, at noon. All other entries will be accepted August 16 and 17. Fulton County Fair reserves the right to award only premiums deserving presentation. Payment of premiums contingent upon allocation of state fair funds.
55-Alive Driving Class The classroom refresher class for 55-Alive mature driving will be offered at the Warfordsburg Senior Center June 30 and July 1. Classes are from 8:30 a.m. to noon and two days of classes are required. Preregister either in person or by mailing the check, payable to AARP, for $12 for AARP members, or $14 for non-members, per person, to the Warfordsburg Senior Center, 209 Long Hollow Road, Warfordsburg, PA 17267. Graduates of the class will be eligible for the three-year auto insurance discount. Anyone planning on staying for lunch following the class should place reservations one day in advance or when preregistering. There is no test involved. Summer Arts Camp Southern Fulton School District is holding a summer arts and technology camp June 22-26 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the elementary school. Fair Queen Applications Fulton County Fair Queen applications are now available for girls 16 but not over 20 years as of June 1, 2009. Entries must be submitted by July 1, 2009. Application and rules can be obtained through school or by contacting Vickie Gordon at 485-5137 or 485-4915.
Summer Reading Program Sign up now for the Summer Reading Program "Be Creative @ Your Library!" at Hustontown Branch Library or Fulton County Library in McConnellsburg. Call the library at 717-485-5327 for more information. The Summer Reading Program kickoff will be held Friday, June 19, at 10:00 a.m. at the Alumni Community Building (old Jaycee building) across from Mc- Connellsburg Elementary School. Special guest will be children's musical group The Cat's Pajamas. The event is open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend!
Library Fundraiser Your child can lend a hand in decorating the newly renovated library. You can place your child's hand print and name on a six-inch square ceramic tile to be displayed in appropriate locations at the library. The cost is a suggested $15 contribution. Application forms may be picked up at the library. You can also inscribe your name or the name of a loved one on a brick paver to be placed in the patio area at the front entrance. Your contribution of $50 purchases a paver.
Free Workshop Woodland Owners of the Southern Alleghenies (WOSA) invite all to a free workshop on June 20 to see how a forest regenerates form prescribed burns. One burn took place November 2001; the other in April 2009. The workshop will be led by forest fire specialist supervisor Ray Miller. It will be held at 9:00 a.m. at the Sideling Hill Forest Foreman Headquarters along Route 30 in Buchanan State Forest. To register call 717-485-3148.
