Carquest To Hold Car Show

Area auto dealership establishing outdoor market

The next several months Thomas Great Cove Autos Dealership will be playing host to the area's only outdoor market, with hopes of offering a variety of items to local shopping enthusiasts ranging from fresh flowers and produce to antiques and baked goods.

Chuck Robertson, dealership general manager, informed the "News" the ongoing market will undoubtedly draw in some motorists and foot traffic to the dealership located just north of Mc- Connellsburg Borough at 21518 Great Cove Road. However, it is with the highest of hopes, Robertson said, that the event will generate additional income for local residents as well as drum up businesses for area shop and restaurant owners.

The outdoor market will kick off on Saturday, June 20, at 9 a.m. and will run on a weekly basis through the fall months. The event will wrap up weekly at approximately 1 p.m.

Robertson stated sale items for the outdoor market could range from those found at an every day garage or yard sale or could be valuable antiques. The dealership is also encouraging the sale of baked goods, produce and cut or potted plants from the garden as well as handcrafted items.

In order to secure a vendor's space, interested residents can contact Sherry Metz or Robertson by calling 717- 485-4224. The deadline to register for a show space is every Thursday through the conclusion of the market later this year.

Cost to reserve a vendor's space is $10, with $10 refundable at the end of the day. Vendor registration costs collected by Thomas Great Cove Autos Dealership are slated to be donated on a weekly basis to local groups, organizations and charities. Robertson added junior members of the McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Co. will be the first group to benefit and receive a check from the outdoor market.

To help kick off the June 20 market, Carquest Automotive Supply is in the process of organizing its second annual cruise-in at the dealership. Owners of any style and model of cars and trucks are welcome to participate in the event, which was deemed "very successful" last year.

No registration is required to participate, and motorists are welcome to roll in at any time during the 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. cruise-in. Raffle prizes as well as food will be available on site.
