Hustontown

By Kate Berkstresser

We couldn't have asked for nicer weekend weather. It was a chance for folks to get out and enjoy. The predictions are for a rainy week.

Sorry to hear Shawn Knepper wasn't able to get home this past week, but our prayers are for his recovery to be soon.

Dean Grove and wife from Colorado, originally from Clear Ridge, visited relatives and took in the Clear Ridge bean soup festival last week.

The Class of 1959 breakfast was held on Saturday, June 6, at the New Fort Restaurant. There were 18 in attendance. Those attending were Lester and Delores Swope, Lester and Margaret Newman, Cathy Rhodes, Dorothy Spade, Bob and June Bennett, Jim Sheffield, Harper Cline, George and Mary Black, Dorothy Hall, Gary Wireman, Richard and Ameon Hann, Clair Helman, and Linda Fitzgerald. Linda travelled the farthest by coming from Las Vegas. Everyone had a nice time reminiscing. Anyone who was unable to attend this breakfast should plan to attend the 50th reunion September 19 at Hustontown Firehall.

A covered-dish meal was held at Center United Methodist Church in honor of Pastor Mike Baumgardner and wife who are being transferred.

Happy birthday wishes to Joyce Brennan, June 7; Christopher Gress, June 10; Tish Hockensmith, June 14; Randy Gelvin, June 15; Sharyn Hill and Jeff Gelvin, June 16.

Belated happy anniversary to Gilbert and Donna DeShong, June 7; Dennis and Sharyn Hill, June 8; and David and Mary Ann Hykes, June 13.

Household hint: Keep cool in the kitchen. Cook meals outside and grill and bake indoors only at night when naturally cool nightime air is available to reduce the temperature in the kitchen before the next hot day begins.
