Police: Weekend Melee Linked To Social Networking?
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Police say they will step up patrols of Philadelphia's popular South Street nightlife venue following a weekend melee that involved an estimated 100 teenagers and young adults.
Authorities say it appears the young people were notified through online social networks of plans to converge on the area.
The violence and vandalism included the hijacking of a taxicab, assaults on two women in a sport utility vehicle, and vandalism of a convenience store.
Police say several people were charged with violating the city's midnight curfew.
