Nancy E. Horne

Hustontown, 55

Nancy E. Horne, 55, Hustontown, Pa., died at 10:05 a.m., Friday, May 22, 2009, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born December 2, 1953, in Lock Haven, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John Elwood Appleby and Faye (Daniels) Appleby, who survives of Waterfall, Pa. She was married to Ronald E. Horne on August 3, 1974. Mr. Horne survives at their home.

She is survived by two sons: Philip R. Horne and wife Brandi of Chambersburg and Patrick E. Horne and wife Jaime of Morgantown, W.Va.; one grandson, Brayden Horne; and a brother, Jack E. Appleby of Waterfall.

She attended My Father's House Ministries, McConnellsburg.

A graduate of Shippensburg University, with a bachelor's and master's degree in elementary education, she taught 33 years as a kindergarten teacher in the Forbes Road School District, having retired in January 2009. Also, she was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority.

She greatly enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She treasured each, especially her grandson, Brayden. She also enjoyed children and travel. This combination led her to China. Her initial trip to China was with a group of teachers, organized through Penn State University. The experience touched her immensely. She totaled six months in China, spread over four trips. Most of Mrs. Horne's time was spent at bilingual schools in Nanjing, China, teaching 2- to 5-yearolds. In addition to English, she taught American customs and traditions to the students. Another interest of Mrs. Horne's, likely her most passionate, was serving Christ. She was part of mission trips to Mexico and Guatemala through Brian Lake Ministries. The trip to Mexico was especially life altering. Through experiences there, her marriage was strengthened and her voice and fire for God were also greatly strengthened. Through her many years of teaching, travel and church, she made many friends all treasured and uniquely special.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at My Father's House Ministries, McConnellsburg. Pastor William Chilcote officiated. Interment was made at Center Cemetery, Waterfall.

Memorial contributions may be made to My Father's House Ministries, 1635 Lincoln Way East, McConnellsburg, PA 17233 or to the American Cancer Society, (Fulton County Unit), 384 Floral Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
