Activities At Cowans Gap

Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of State Parks, and Cowans Gap State Park would like to announce the following weekend activities:

May 30 - 8:00 pm: A Walk in the Dark

Are you afraid of the dark? You don't have to be! Lots of animals think after dark is the best time to be up and about. Join in this walk in the dark to explore the lives of nocturnal creatures. Meet at the Amphitheater.

May 31 - 2:00 p.m.: Walk with Mrs. Cowan

Come along on a walk with "Mrs. Cowan!" Today's walk features the history of Cowans Gap. Learn how the Gap was formed, how it got its name, and how this land became a state park. This walk is suitable for all ages. Meet at the beach area; 5:30 pm: Green Team Series: Hike to the Overlook. All senior citizens are invited to come along on this walk to the overlook. The overlook provides a stunning view of Path Valley and ridges to the east, so you may wish to bring along a camera or binoculars. Also be sure to bring a bottle of water and wear solid walking shoes. Meet at the Brightbill Interpretive Center.

These programs are free of charge and open to the public. For more information, contact Beth Garner, environmental education specialist, at 717-485-3948 or by e-mail at NRCowansEEPrograms@ state.pa.us.

Scheduled visitor hours for the Brightbill Interpretive Center this weekend are Sat: 3:00-5:00 p.m.; Sun: 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
