Mercersburg Farmers Market Opens May 30

The grand opening of the new Mercersburg Farmers Market will happen Saturday morning May 30 at the Summit Health Center parking lot on the north end of Mercersburg. The market itself will open at 8:00 a.m. and run until 1:00. The opening ceremonies on May 30, however, will be at 9:30.

There are nine vendors signed on to the market, some part time. Everything is grown or made locally. There will be vegetable and fruit growers; eggs, butter and cheese; wildflowers, herbs, artists and artisan crafters. Flannery's will be on hand with ready-to-eat food made from local products.

Musicians and educational artisan demonstrations will occur from time to time as various artists are available. On opening day a flute player is expected. Cooking demos are on tap in the near future.

Artists who wish to contribute demonstrations or music may contact the market at P.O. Box 92, Mercersburg or phone 328-2540 to complete a short application.

The market is a result of a small group of people with a dream of providing a venue for local producers that began meeting last winter to see if it was possible. As farmers and artisans were contacted, the sparks caught, and it was a definite go when Dr. Liz George arranged for Summit Health Center parking lot to be used.

The market will be open every Saturday morning through October, rain or shine.
