Janie E. Crouse

Janie E. Crouse, 95, Mc- Connellsburg, died Sunday, May 17, 2009, at her residence.

Born in Defiance, Pa., June 17, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Harry B. (Pharoah) and Edith (Defibaugh) Winter. She was the widow of Parker Houpt Crouse, whom she married in 1936. He passed away June 8, 1996.

She graduated from Broad Top High School, received her registered nursing degree from J.C. Blair Memorial in Huntingdon and then attended the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, where she received her National League of Nurses Certificate.

She was a member of Mc- Connellsburg United Methodist church, McConnellsburg, and Hopewell Senior Centers, was on the transportation committee for the Office on Aging in Mc- Connellsburg, member of Mc- Connellsburg Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary and a former member of Fulton County Medical Center Ladies Auxiliary.

She worked at hospitals in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., helped get the Fulton County Medical Center started, was an industrial nurse at Sagner Inc., and also was a public health nurse for Fulton County.

She is survived by daughters: Wanda Carver, Hopewell, and Ellen E. Crouse, McConnellsburg; a son, Parker E. Crouse, Chandler, Ariz.; sisters: Ruth B.Mellott, McConnellsburg, and Jessie Jarrett, New Enterprise; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by 11 siblings and a grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at Howard L. Sipes Funeral Home Inc., McConnellsburg, at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 21. Pastor John Godissart will officiate. Burial will be made in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg.

There will be visitation on Thursday, May 21, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
