Refueled Nuclear Unit Resumes Operation In Pa.
BERWICK, Pa. (AP) - PPL Corp. says Unit 2 at its Susquehanna nuclear power plant in eastern Pennsylvania has resumed generating electricity after a nearly six-week refueling shutdown.
Vice president for nuclear operations Neil Gannon says about 40 percent of the uranium fuel was replaced and other upgrades were performed at the unit.
The shutdown began April 7 and the unit has resumed generating power for customers Monday.
The Susquehanna Plant is near Berwick, about 100 miles northwest of Philadelphia. Its two units generated enough electricity in 2008 to power about 2 million homes.
