PennDOT To Preserve 20 Bridges Across Dist. 9
PennDOT announced last week that work will begin on a project in District 9 financed with federal funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
Work began on Monday, May 18, on a $4,389,810 contract to preserve 20 bridges throughout the six-county district by performing abrasive blast cleaning and painting the existing steel superstructure using a threecoat paint system. The project was awarded to Hercules Painting Co. Inc. of New Castle, Lawrence County.
The project will cause minimal delays to the traveling public and will utilize minimal daylight traffic control. The work will begin in Bedford County on Interstate 99 over Dunnings Creek between milepost two and three. The contractor will have work completed on all 20 bridges by November 2010.
Within District 9's six counties, PennDOT will invest more than $47 million of federal economic recovery funds on 17 transportation projects, which include road and bridge improvements and traffic signal upgrades.
